This is one of the first pictures taken of Roxy. She is about 9 months old in this snapshot. Roxy was born in August of 1989, in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. I adopted her from my cousin Alice in September of 1989. I wasn't really looking to take on another cat at the time, as it was only 2 months since I had to put Rusty to sleep where she was sick, and give Holly up for adoption as well. I lived in Halifax for the Summer of 1989, but decided to move back to the house for the Winter to take care of it. This is when I made my decision and to adopt a kitten. Roxy was the runt of the litter and the color and features she had made me want her, from the rest of her sisters and brother. The first thing I needed to do was give the kitten a name. If I had my way, Roxy's name would have been Effie. But my friend Linda convinced me that Effie was not a good name for a cat. It then was back to thinking of a name for Roxy. Like Holly's naming, a flash came to me and the new Kitten was named after the old Movie Theatre that was in Westville, Nova Scotia; "The Roxy". It was a name that just seem to suit the kitten, that to this day, In September Roxy came to live with me and Roxy still lives in the lap of luxury. |

In April 1996 Roxy had one last move to make. Roxy, Barney & I moved to Calgary, and Roxy has been here ever since. Roxy has adjusted to all the moving in her life. In May 2000 Roxy had one more adjustment to make. A new kitten enter her life. Poor Barney passed away about a week before Haimish came to live and it took Roxy longer to accept the fact Haimish is living here, than it took her to accept Barney. |

Today, Roxy is living out her Golden Years. She is now 15 years old and still going strong. Roxy lost some weight since this picture was taken. And she takes longer to move around. Roxy's health seem to good, and there doens't seem to be that much bothering her. And hopefully there will be a few more good years left in her. Roxy is the last survivor of her litter. Roxy is always there to meet me when I come home from work, but I think it is to make sure I make don't take too long in getting something into her dish. |
1 February, 2005. Roxy was to see her Veterinary today. I found out today that Roxy has an over active thyroid. This is why she has been eating like no tomorrow but has lost weight instead of gaining.. For the next month I have to give her one pill a day called Tapazole. Then in a months time more tests will be done and we will see if things are working or if the pills have to be increased or decreased to help the problem and if not then surgery and removal of the thyroid is the next step. I could also decide on having radiation threatments done on roxy and having the thyroid zapped. There is one more possibility the thryroid is Cancerous. If this is the case, then different treatments may be done, or I may just put Roxy out of her misery and send her to the Rainbow Bridge to join Barney. But it is nice to have Roxy home and maybe on the road to recovery. It could have been a lot worse. We could have found out Roxy has diabetes. Which if it was the case the prognosis would probably be a lot different. |
1 May, 2005 The latest update to Roxy's illness. To put it in a nutshell, Roxy is still with us and seems to going to be around for awhile yet. Roxy was to see her Veterinary yesterday and the blood work came back and there were no changes for the worse. Dr. Golbeck wants to keep giving Roxy her two pills a day yet for another month to see what is going to happen and to see if things improve for the better. I must mention here about a 5 or 6 weeks ago Roxy was to see Dr. Golbeck and we discovered there was no change to her condition, so it was decided to give Roxy two pills a day to see if things would improve. For the last five or six weeks Roxy was given her two pills a day. There is no changes for the worse, but the bloodwork is better now than it was a spell ago. So we are going to keep Roxy on her pills for another month. I was told that it takes a bit to see where the happy medium is for the pills to take effect. Roxy is also about 80+ in human years. So she could be getting a bit forgetful, senile could be a good word to describe it. I was told the reason Roxy may make a fuss when I pick her up is her bones are probably getting stiff and old, and Roxy may be suffering from the aches and pains of "Old Age". |
26 April, 2006. Roxy was not getting any better, but worse. As the summer of 2005 turned into the winter of 2005/6 Roxy just went downhill. Roxy kept eating and eating and no gain in weight. Roxy also started to walk with a linp about July of 2005. The limp was getting more pronounced as the time went on. At the last Roxy would howl for no reason at all. I figure the poor Roxy was suffering in pain. At 1310 hrs today MDT Roxy was put to rest. She is now out of her suffering and is reunited with Barney. Haimish does not realize yet Roxy is gone, but before I took Roxy on her last ride, she said goodbye to Haimish. Roxy was a good cat, I will miss her terribly, but I now she is at peace. Her little body suffers no more. |
